Session rates
I'm an out-of-network provider, meaning I'm not contracted with any insurance companies. Depending on your plan, you may be eligible for reimbursement of a portion of each session's cost (typically 50-80%) once any applicable deductible has been met. Your insurance company determines eligibility and reimbursement amounts, so it's worth confirming your benefits with them directly.
Using out-of-network benefits is entirely optional; you're also welcome to simply pay privately. We'll talk through what makes sense for you during our consultation call. If you'd like to use your out-of-network benefits, I'm happy to help make that process as easy as possible:
Submit superbills: I provide superbills (receipts with the codes your insurance company needs) that you submit directly for reimbursement.
Use Thrizer: If you're eligible, I can submit claims to your insurance company on your behalf through Thrizer, which simplifies the process. In some cases, this also allows you to pay only your estimated out-of-pocket cost upfront, rather than the full fee.
Paying for therapy
Thrizer is a secure payment platform that makes using out-of-network benefits easier. It can handle the insurance claim process for you, so you don't have to navigate paperwork or submit claims yourself. If you’re eligible to use Thrizer, I can submit eligible claims to your insurance company on your behalf.
Through Thrizer, you can also check your estimated out-of-network benefits and get an estimate of what you may pay for each session. Depending on your insurance plan and whether you’ve met your out-of-network deductible, you may be able to pay an estimated amount toward your session rather than paying the full session fee upfront and waiting for reimbursement.
Note: Actual coverage and reimbursement may vary. Your insurance company makes the final determination when your claim is processed, so I recommend confirming your benefits directly with your insurer.
Using Thrizer
For questions about using your out-of-network benefits, a good first step is to contact your insurance company directly. When you call, you may want to ask:
Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health services?
What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much have I met?
What percentage of the allowed amount is reimbursed after I meet my deductible?
What is the allowed amount for outpatient psychotherapy? For individual sessions, ask about CPT 90837; for couples sessions, ask about CPT 90847.
Is teletherapy covered the same as in-person sessions?
Do I need a referral or prior authorization for out-of-network mental health services?
Is there a limit on the number of sessions covered per year?
How do I submit out-of-network claims, and what documentation is required?
Verifying your out-of-network benefits
In accordance with the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before starting treatment. I provide this at intake, and you're welcome to request one at any time.
